Anika Noni Rose Joins Cast of 50 Cent Produced ‘Power’ Next Season on STARZ

She isn't a little Disney girl anymore. The hit TV show Power, which appears on STARZ and is produced by 50 Cent, is gaining another beauty when Anika Noni Rose joins the cast next season.

Rose, known for her roles in Dreamgirls and the boundary breaking Princess and the Frog, will be playing a cop by the name of LaVerne Thomas who is from Ghost and Tommy's old neighborhood. The role should last for several episodes and it will be interesting to see how The Good Wife actress' character develops, especially with the way the popular crime drama ended last season.

Rose has been a busy lady recently. In addition to Power, the Tony Award winner is also finishing up a TV movie remake of Roots, based on a miniseries that originally aired in 1977. She'll be in great company as Mekhi Phifer, Laurence Fishburne and Forest Whitaker are also set to star in the series, which will be produced by Will Packer, LeVar Burton (the original Kunta Kinte) and Mark Wolper, son of David L. Wolper, the 1977 series' original producer.

The reboot will run over four nights for a total of eight hours, and will air on A&E, the History Channel and Lifetime sometime in 2016.

Rose also has a new movie on her plate, a heist thriller called The Blue Mauritius, set for release in 2016. According to Variety, Nick Cannon is one of the film's executive producers, along with D Street Pictures Dexter Davis and French producer Ilann Girard.

So with everything she's got going on, can the multitalented star do justice to her Power role? Whether she can or not has yet to be seen, but either way, she's excited, as seen in the tweet and Facebook post she sent out yesterday thanking well-wishers. She even broke her social media fast to do it!

"Been on crucial social media break but a friend of mine told me y'all lit it up over the @Power_starz anncmnt. So I had 2come say Thank you so much for all the kind, positive responses, and your constant support! ‪#‎ItsBoutToGetReal"
