The first trailer for one of next summer's biggest blockbusters premiered recently, giving moviegoers our first look at the highly anticipated sequel to 1996's Independence Day. Returning star Jeff Goldblum leads the cast of 2016's Independence Day: Resurgence, which certainly has an updated and terrifying new look as we learn while watching this trailer. Though original star Will Smith is not returning for this film, a new viral website for the project has revealed some spoilers about his character. Read more on this movie below.

Early reports concerning the new Independence Day film was buzzing all of 2015, but fans were certainly disappointed to learn that Smith decided not to return for the sequel. His character, Colonel Steven Hiller, isn't entirely out of the story though. According to a new viral website for the new movie, Hiller perished in a test flight of a human-alien hybrid fighter jet (via Slash Film).
Jessie Usher plays Smith's son and will continue the Hiller legacy in this 2016 blockbuster.

Aside from the viral website for the film, an exciting first-look trailer premiered and has moviegoers buzzing. We get to see some familiar faces, but also newcomers like Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe.
