LISTEN: Pharrell Williams 'Smile' continues 'Happy' good vibes on 'G I R L' bonus track

Pharrell Williams is continuing with the positive vibes on his new album G I R L. He has an insanely successful single with "Happy," so now he's keeping the good feelings flowing with a new track "Smile." The new song appears on the Japanese version of G I R L, which just hit shelves this week.

Though similar enough in title and lyrical theme, "Smile" and "Happy" have little in common as far as melodies go. "Smile" begins with a few clicks of a drum machine and a burst of choppy piano chords. The simplistic, stripped down musical approach is just as sunny as "Happy," though it lacks the over-the-top production and bombastic noises of that inescapable tune.

Let's just say "Smile" is a more subdued version of happiness, one with a big old side of optimism. The music just sounds like Pharrell is trying to empower you to live up to your dreams, and the lyrics follow suit.

"Never give up on the things that make you smile / Even if it means you have to crawl for a thousand miles," he sings in one verse.

The chorus is similarly optimistic, with a dose of never-ending love. "I wish I could tell you how I feel / Don't make sense trust me I've tried / Nothing to prove so I don't say nothing / Just close my eyes, stand there and I smile," he sings in a peppy little falsetto.

"Smile" lacks the pure power of "Happy," but it still manages to bring out all those nice thoughts.
