Tamar Braxton is out of the hospital and made her return to The Real on Wednesday (Dec. 16). Upon her return, Braxton gave viewers and fas alike an update following her health scare.
Braxton was initially diagnosed with pneumonia, but it was later discovered that she had blood clots on her lung. According to The Grio, the “Love and War” vocalist was treated for the condition and had a rib removed.
The Real put out a video montage, narrated by Tamera Mowry-Housley, detailing Braxton’s journey. It reads in part, "Further medical tests reveal Tamar suffers from a condition called thoracic outlet syndrome. Due to strenuous activity, the muscles around her rib have become enlarged, blocking the blood from flowing to major veins and arteries in the arm and causing blood clots to form. The blood thinners doctors prescribe clear the blood clots in Tamar’s lungs. She’s released from the hospital. Following one week of bed rest, doctors, determined to get at the cause of the problem, decide major surgery is in order. Tamar undergoes a procedure to remove her rib and remove the pressure."
Aside from her absence on the daytime talk show, Braxton was also forced to quit Dancing with the Stars. For weeks, Braxton remained at the top of the pack, competing week after week and becoming a fan favorite with her partner Val Chmerkovskiy.
But there is a silver lining in Braxton's ordeal. In October, she released her fourth studio album, Calling All Lovers. The album started at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, bowing with 43,000 units (38,000 in pure album sales). The album’s lead single “If I Don’t Have You” is nominated for Best R&B Performance at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
