R. Kelly has been pushing his new album, The Buffet, lately, but can't seem to shake those old rape allegations and lawsuits. He even left an interview with Huffpost Live when they were mentioned during a Q&A about the new album. Ironically enough, the questions came straight from Twitter and Kelly recently uploaded a passionate video to Youtube in order to rep his record when sales on The Buffet were flailing.
The show's host was quick to mention both the low album sales and an extreme lacking in support for the singer from the public. While Kelly chalked up the disappointing sales to digital piracy, based on the Twitter feed, it was implied that his old allegations of abuse were still haunting him. In the video, Kelly grew increasingly nervous, especially once tweets began to emerge suggesting how hard it is to separate the singer's personal life from his music.
"I say f*ck that," Kelly eventually said before walking out. "I'm not perfect. But I'm perfectly me."
But the singer hasn't always walked about when asked about old allegations and lawsuits against him. In an interview with New York Magazine, Kelly said, "I feel like I've got a million people hating me, I've got maybe 8 million loving me. So I've got 9 million talking about me, and in a strange, magical way, it keeps me in the game."
He further said to the publication when asked about the old allegations, "That's a rumor that comes from the Earth, like all rumors. No. It's not true. I love women, period. If I wasn't a celebrity, people wouldn't be saying these things about me."
It remains to be seen what the ultimate outcome for The Buffet will be, but based on the interview with HuffPost Live, it doesn't look good.
