Mac DeMarco Believes in the Jar Jar Reddit Theory, Reviews 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

Noted Star Wars super fan and all-around goofy rocker Mac DeMarco has already seen The Force Awakens three times this weekend, so he's about as much of an expert on the movie as any regular citizen can be at this point, which is why he reviewed the movie in a short video for Stereogum. OK -- it's a mock review -- but still worth watching. In the video, DeMarco shows the ticket stubs to prove he's seen the movie, but proceeds to just flip through Powerpoint-style slides of Jar Jar Binks, making reference to the popular Reddit theory that surfaced earlier this year.

The theory asserts that the prequel's most widely hated clumsy character is actually the perpetrator of all the events in the entire saga for he is the ultimate Sith lord and will reveal himself in Episode VII as Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis).

If you are not among one of the half-billion people who saw the movie over the weekend, here's where we get into some actual spoilers. Although I suspect the most hardcore of Binks theory apologists will disagree, Supreme Leader Snoke is most definitely not Jar Jar.

While it's theoretically possible Jar Jar has lost his reptilian exterior to age and dropped his dopey accent once he effectively fooled everyone into following him,

Snoke is just a poorly developed, grey-skinned alien character who gets hardly any screen time or plot development in this first movie - Not Jar Jar. Sorry believers.

It's definitely on brand for DeMarco to subscribe to this theory and develop a fairly robust prank to trick the few Binks theory purists who didn't see the movie this weekend. DeMarco seems like the kind of nut-ball who would not only love the Binks theory but purposely spread it to as many who will listen, which is pretty much exactly what he's doing here. Good luck with that mission.
