Rick Ross wonders aloud if thugs cry in his Lil Wayne-featuring track "Thug Cry" from his new album Mastermind, and now the Maybach Music boss is exploring the emotional side of the hard knock life in the cinematic clip for the track, released today (May 5).
In the official music video for "Thug Cry," Wood Harris of The Wire plays a prisoner on the day of his release. Unfortunately for the man, no one from his life outside will answer the phone, and he loses himself in the music of Ross and Weezy as he flashes back to the traumatic scene that sent him to prison in the first place.
The violent clip reveals Harris took part in a liquor store robbery gone horribly awry, with the authorities scooping him and his fellow robbers up, sending them to an undetermined amount of time behind bars.
In the end, though, the music video for "Thug Cry" is a bit of a story of redemption, as Harris shows remorseful looks in his eyes throughout the prison scenes. Eventually, he's happily reunited with his friends and family on the street, in a big party that features none other than Ross himself among the crowd.
Unlike the disappointing, half-assed music video for "The Devil Is A Lie," both Ross and Lil Wayne make appearances in "Thug Cry" to deliver their verses, though they never show up on the screen at the same time. For a non-single (as of now...), the clip for "Thug Cry" is far superior to the other offerings seen from Mastermind.
