Ed Sheeran was feeling pretty generous this holiday season when he dropped a hefty $1.1 millon and gifted his parents, John and Imogene Sheeran, a brand-new home in London along with a Mini. The "Thinking Out Loud" singer, who recently went on a yearlong social media boycott, kept his parents close by buying them the house across the street from his very own flat in London. A sweet gesture regardless, but Sheeran did have a motive of his own-expectations that their close proximity means his parents can watch his kids in the future.
"When they start getting a little bit irritating, I've got the grandparents there," he explained to The Sun.
The Gingerbread Man Records owner shares a close bond with his parents and lives just one mile away from them and their Framlingham, Suffolk home, MTV News reports. The giving didn't stop there-the "Photograph" singer also gifted his parents with the keys to his own mini so they had their own car to venture into the city with.
"I thought instead of them having to drive their car up every time they're in the country, they can have the Mini and just use that when they are there," the 24-year-old told The Sun.
At least Sheeran's escape from social media and endless screens doesn't mean a break from music-the X singer is even using his time away to focus on his third studio album and travel. Over the weekend, Sheeran even performed at TV presenter Christine Bleakly and former England and Chelsea footballer Frank Lampard's wedding.
"I'm taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed," he wrote in goodbye post. "The third album is on its way and is the best thing I have made thus far. See you all next autumn, and thank you for being amazing."
