Did Flume Steal Skrillex and What So Not Collaboration? George Maple, Fans Accuse Producer

Mere hours after Flume shared a brief preview of his forthcoming album, a number of Reddit users joined by vocalist George Maple accused the producer of stealing an unreleased Skrillex and What So Not collaboration. In spite of the allegations, the Internet still seems to be exploding with excited anticipation for Skin, which the Australian producer announced is "almost finished" earlier this week.

The possibly plagiarized track in question drops at the 1:34 mark in the album teaser. The preview, which clocks in at just under five minutes and has garnered over 450 thousand plays in just under two days, is available to stream via the producer's Soundcloud. Listen below.

As EDM Tunes reports, some super fans with excellent ears for track IDs concluded that the track is extremely similar to the Skrillex and What So Not collaboration known as the "Beachlife ID." While the song remains unreleased at present, you can hear it at the 40:50 mark in the video of Skrillex performing at Beachlife Festival in 2014 below.

Of course, Flume--born Harley Edward Streten--used to be one-half of What So Not alongside Emoh Instead. Streten split early in 2015 to focus on his solo career while Emoh Instead has continued to produce under the formerly shared moniker as his own solo project.

While the similarities in the tracks in question could easily be attributed to a case of recycling a snippet of an old song he actually did work on, long time What So Not collaborator George Maple is not so quick to accept this explanation. Upon hearing the Skin teaser, the vocalist took to Twitter to call-out Streten for using the track without gaining the appropriate permissions.

While Maple's trail of EDM twitter beef has since been deleted, EDM Sauce screen-captured her allegations in which she throws down the hashtag #getyourownsongs and asserts that "there is one thing I won't stand for and that is music thieves."

In other words, while Streten may have helped create the song in the first place, it seems like it was not officially handed over for him to use, let alone release, under his solo project's moniker.

Besides Maple, the other artists involved in the drama have yet to respond to the allegations.
