Here is a name you probably have not heard from in a while - Toto. The "Africa" group is on the comeback trail in the form of an album Toto XIV and according to a Facebook post, a potential collaboration with Skrillex and What So Not.
This is one of the more unlikely of combinations to come about with a total clash of styles, but Skrillex is not stranger to stepping outside of his electronic music comfort zone and trying something new. On his album Recess, the LA-based producer teamed up with Korean artists CL and G-Dragon for "Dirty Vibe." He has worked with acts like A$AP Rocky, The Doors, Korn, Damian Marley and reportedly Justin Bieber, showing a penchant for working with acts outside of the dance sphere.
Bringing in the combination of Flume and Emoh Instead, the pairing known as What So Not, adds an extra Australian twist to the potential collaboration.
The group shared more details about the collaboration on the same post, clarifying that "Toto is NOT going dubstep." See the full note below via Mixmag:
"It is VERY melodic and Joe and I sang and the band is very cool and Skrillex is a very nice guy and very creative as are the team "What So Not' It was a 'love fest' right away and we created something from a germ of an idea they had and it was a meeting of 2 generations. [We] NEVER would have thought it worked. They called US and we went and ended up writing and recording a VERY cool piece. It will be interesting to see what they do with this. I love a new fresh challenge. We all walked away happy on both sides. Great experiment that worked. Don't worry. Toto is NOT going dubstep haha. It was fun session and we made some new friends."
Toto will be releasing a new album, Toto XIV, on March 20th .
