Steve Angello is known for his accolades and exploits as a DJ and producer, but now the former Swedish House Mafia member is becoming much more involved in the film and TV. He is teaming up Primary Wave Entertainment to produce a new scripted series about the world of dance music.
According to Variety, he will be joined by his producing partner and wife Isabel Adrian, the CEO of LaLa Studios, music director Gregory Alosio, Martin Management's Sharlene Martin-Ludwig, Cult Collective's Pia Lindstrom and Primary Wave Entertainment senior manager Ben Press.
The series does not have a name yet, but it will be about DJ culture and larger-than-life world that EDM has become. The show figures to feature a lot of Angello's music.
The project is still in its very early stages, but several venues have expressed interest in being featured in the filming.
In addition to the Angello-produced series, Primary Wave Entertainment is continuing the electronic music trend and is picking up the book written by Adrian titled Sex, Drugs and The DJ to create a film. The book is about a DJ similar to her husband Steve Angello who rises from humble beginnings to a global superstar and is loosely based on their life together.
This would be the second TV project that Steve Angello would be involved with producing. He also signed on to assist with the CW series The Drop, where he will executive produce the soundtrack, in addition to act as a producer for the series.
Hollywood is seeing the resurgence of dance music in the United States as an opportunity, but as the historic flop of the Zac Efron film We Are Your Friends showed, they have to find the right line between creating a watchable product that doesn't appropriate a culture which fiercely holds onto its underground roots.
