Maya Jane Coles may have just put out an album as her darker, dubbier alias Nocturnal Sunshine in 2015, but the London native is gearing up to release her biggest project to date in 2016 - a double album.
Speaking to DJ Mag in their January cover issues, Coles called the LP "quite raw" and said that she is about 75 percent finished with it, "but as it goes along I keep changing tracks and making something new and thinking: this has to be on it!"
The album is still in the early stages, so Coles will take the next month off to stay at home spend time just working on the new LP. It still doesn't have a name, but that will come last with the artwork. She keeps on changing things around, which is delaying the process.
There will be some features on the LP, though she is being coy on who is joining her on the new LP. Coles does most of the vocals on her double-disc LP, where she samples her own vocals and chops them up into a new instrument.
"I was really torn with the direction I wanted to go in, because obviously I make very different sounds," she explains. "I've got the more song-based, home listening side and the more house tempo side, so instead of having a half-half thing, I thought: actually, I want to have one disc where it's based on the more melodic, song-based stuff, and the more - I wouldn't say bangin' club stuff, but a bit more up-tempo stuff on the other disc, and please everyone. As well as myself!"
There isn't an estimated release date yet on the album yet, but the double album, which will contain over 20 tracks, should arrive at some point in 2016. This would be her sophomore album as Maya Jane Coles and the first since 2013's Comfort.
