'Mad Max' Director George Miller Talks Furiosa Standalone, 'Fury Road' Sequel

We know that Mad Max: Fury Road, named the best movie of 2015 by a number of associations, is getting sequels, but will we see Charlize Theron's Furiosa again? Director George Miller is definitely interested in bringing a standalone film to fans, but a new interview revealed that he's focused on other movies right now.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly Radio this week, the filmmaker admitted that he wants to make another type of movie that isn't related to the wasteland of the Mad Max world, so a Furiosa film is on the backburner for now.

"I'm not sure if it's the very next movie I want to do," Miller said, according to UPROXX. "I've got something a bit smaller before we go back out into the wasteland ... Something more performance-based and so on, just to clear the exhaust."

It sounds like we'll get our Furiosa movie, but we'll have to wait a bit.

Though he isn't working on the film just yet, Miller had a lot to say about Furiosa.

"She's a pretty compelling character so it would be great to tell her story," the director teased. "Her backstory is really interesting," says Miller. "We only allude to it in this movie because this movie is on the run; people don't have much time for recreational talk. But you pick up; you have a sense of her having gone through stuff. That's what the film is trying to do. You're trying to put a lot of iceberg under the tip, I like saying."

We also know that leading actor Tom Hardy is signed on for more Mad Max movies, so we understand why Miller wants a break from the "wasteland" before jumping in with numerous films.
