Late Friday night, Iggy Azalea dropped the latest single from her forthcoming album, Digital Distortion titled "Azillion." It's a club song that forgoes some of the pop sensibilities she had on previous chart topping songs.
She made the announcement on Twitter with a simple message "4 MY RATZ ;-)" with a link to her soundcloud account.
The song utilizes a lot of club-ready trap beats and has Azalea showing off her speed boasting about her wealth rhyming million, billion, trillion and zillion -- which to put it nicely, is just low hanging fruit. While she's always rapped on her songs, hits such as "Fancy" are more crossover tracks to pop, whereas this tune is firmly rooted in trap music.
Azalea appears to be trying to combat the criticisms of cultural appropriateness leveled against her by doubling down on the Southern "blaccent" she has always used in her music, but doesn't have in her normal speaking voice, as well as trying to use the speed with which she raps to gain some critical support. The lyrics don't do much to help assuage her critics either, as she raps about scraping by to make ends meet, while simultaneously boasting about how much money she makes in a very disjointed fashion.
Still, fans of her music have been overly positive in the comments on her Soundcloud and on Twitter, with people saying she's the best rapper out there today and expressing their love for the new song.
Here are some of the best and most absurd lines from the song, which you can listen to below.
"Gotta stack bread, home pride to the ceiling, uh"
"I'm getting commas and O's like cheerios needs to get a song."
"From December to the motherf---ing Igguary"
According to Billboard, in December she announced the lead track from Digital Distortion would be a track called "Team." The song and album haven't received a release date yet, but she said fans can expect other "goodies" in January.
