After months of rumors, Goldenvoice, the creators of Coachella, have confirmed a new music festival Panorama in New York City for this July. The festival will be taking place at Randall's Island Park on July 22-24, seven weeks after Governors Ball.
Goldenvoice is promoting Panorama as, "three days of music, art, technology and local food offerings." The promotions company invented the name from the Panorama of the City of New York, which is an almost 10,000 square foot to scale model of the metropolis residing in Queens.
"We look forward to bringing Panorama to New York City and introducing a new festival that showcases today's top music acts," festival producer at Goldenvoice Mark Shulman said in a statement to Billboard. "We're committed to creating an event that will provide significant benefits to New York City with a level of experience and meticulous attention to detail for which Goldenvoice is known."
But Panorama almost didn't happen, and it was announced following a petition from the promoters behind Governors Ball requesting Mayor Bill de Blasio to squash the festival. The request cited that Panorama had requested the same dates in the same park as Governor's Ball and that it would cut into their ticket sales. So instead of two weeks after GovBall, Panorama will occur a full seven weeks later.
Shulman further said in his statement, "Goldenvoice has received tremendous support from the local community and elected officials who recognize the immense economic benefits these types of events deliver to their businesses and constituents. We look forward to continuing our discussions with NYC Parks in order to create an event to take place in Queens in the future."
Festival goers are additionally gearing up for this year's Coachella, which touts Guns N' Roses, Calvin Harris and LCD Soundsystem amongst it's headliners. There have been rumors flying about both Guns N' Roses and LCD Soundsystem reunions for months, which have just recently been confirmed. Other names associated with Coachella this year include Ellie Goulding, Sia, Sufjan Stevens, Disclosure, Beach House, Grimes, A$AP Rocky, James Bay, Chris Stapleton, Of Monsters and Men, Gary Clark Jr., DJ Mustard and more.
