Blac Youngsta recently had a disheartening interaction with the authorities. As previously reported, the rapper withdrew $200,000 from the ATM and afterwards police, who confiscated the cash, detained the rapper. Eventually Youngsta was released, but the police kept $100,000 while the investigation was ongoing. The withdrawal came from a Wells Fargo bank in Atlanta. WorldStarHipHop later filmed a video explaining to viewers what had occurred. The rapper seemed shocked and disillusioned by the event. The bank released a statement regarding the incident on Wednesday.
Wells Fargo insisted that Blac Youngsta was not an account holder, and never entered the physical building in Atlanta. "Mr. Benson is not an account holder with us," the statement from Wells Fargo Southeast Communication Manger Crystal Drake says, according to HipHopDX. "He did not enter our store nor did he make any withdrawals.
The statement continued, "A fraudulent incident did occur in the store so in the best interest of our customer, we reported it to law enforcement right away and as a result, a suspect was apprehended and the customer was not the victim of fraud. Mr. Benson was not a party to the fraudulent incident."
"We're confident that our description of the suspect was appropriate. It is documented in the police report. We encourage you to review it."
The fraud case in question was eventually closed when Charles Darnell Edward was arrested and charged with first-degree forgery.
Some have pointed out the allegedly racist motivations behind Blac Youngsta's detainment. Although the rapper was not arrested, did not hold an account at Wells Fargo, and was quickly released, many saw the incident as an example of prejudice and racism in America. These voices believe that an African-American with a large sum of money should not be cause for alarm among law enforcement, and such prejudice has hurt race relations in America.
