Boston surprisingly does not have many large music festivals, despite its rich history and large surrounding population. Carrying the torch for the city in many respects is Boston Calling Festival, which occurs twice a year - once in the spring and again the fall. The festival has announced the 2016 lineup for the 2016 spring edition and Robyn, Disclosure, Sia and Odesza will headline it.
Other big name acts that are slated to perform at City Hall Plaza over Memorial Day Weekend include Courtney Barnett, Sufjan Stevens, HAIM, Miike Snow and Janelle Monáe.
Though the lineup is only 24 artists deep, there is a solid attempt at genre diversity across the board. There are rappers and r&b singers like Michael Christmas, Vince Staples and Janelle Monáe who will perform.
Some electronic acts also grace the bill, highlighted by Disclosure and Odesza at the top of the lineup, joined by the likes of Miike Snow.
The pop acts that do make the bill aren't bubble-gum teen-pop, but rather acts like Sia, Robyn and Elle King that have some soul and well-written lyrics.
The lineup will be dominated by indie and tock acts such as Sufjan Stevens and Courtney Barnett.
A lot of festivals like to jam as many names as they can onto a bill and hope that some of them will impress fans. Boston Calling has chosen quality over quantity, carefully selecting 24 artists to perform over the three days.
Boston Calling will take place at City Hall Plaza in Boston, Massachusetts from May 27-29 over Memorial Day Weekend. General Admission and VIP passes are on sale now, starting at $170 for GA and $340 for VIP.
