It looks like singer-actor Jamie Foxx doesn't just save people in movies. The new Robin Hood: Origins star helped pull a man out of a truck Monday evening after the vehicle hit a drainage ditch, rolled and caught on fire. "Jamie didn't hesitate. He jumped out and ran to the car," a member of Foxx's team told ABC News.
According to police, Brett Kyle, 32, was driving his Toyota Tacoma under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, which took place in Moorpark, a town in Ventura County, California. After rolling, the truck landed on its passenger side before bursting into flames. "Two witnesses that were near the collision scene ran to the burning, overturned truck in an attempt to free the driver. One of the witnesses retrieved a rescue tool from his vehicle allowing the two citizens to break the window, cut the seat belt, and extricate the driver," police said.
According to Foxx, the actor kept speaking encouragingly to Kyle while pulling him out. "As I'm getting him out, I said, 'You've got to help me get you out because I don't want to have to leave you,'" Foxx told a CNN affiliate. "I said, 'You've angels around you.'" Even with his clearly heroic actions, though, the Oscar winner refuses to claim the title of "hero." "I don't look at it as heroic. I just look at it as ... you just had to do something," Foxx said. "It all worked out." While the actor's modesty is noted, Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Mike Lindbery disagrees with Foxx denying his hero title. "It was a pretty courageous thing to do," said Lindbery. "It's rare these days that you find someone willing to jump in to help like that."
Kyle, whose injuries include major head, chest and neck trauma, is expected to face DUI charges, and according to police was "arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol." He is currently in the hospital recovering. Kyle's family is just happy that he's still here with them. Foxx posted an Instagram photo on Tuesday of himself hugging Kyle's father with the caption, "Met the father of the young man from last night today. This is all that matters. That a man, a son, a brother's life was spared last night. God had his arms wrapped around all of us...No heroes...Just happy fathers."
