Dame Dash Responds to His Cousin Stacey's Comments About Removal of BET Awards

On Wednesday (Jan. 20), Stacey Dash caused quite a stir during an appearance on FOX & Friends. While the actress may have rubbed more than a few people the wrong way, her cousin Dame Dash somewhat made sense of her comments about the removal of the BET Awards. He responded and gave his own interpretation while speaking with Dr. Boyce Watkins.

Prior to Dame Dash’s chat with the author and social commentator, the Internet exploded with opinions on the Clueless star’s remarks. UGK rapper Bun B even shared his thoughts and referred to Stacey Dash as the “biggest c**n in the room.”

The former Roc-A-Fella Records exec seemed notably disappointed that his cousin had been perceived that way. He referred to her statements as “annoying” and revealed that “it really isn’t the best thing to hear Dash associated with c**ning.”

Although their perspectives differ, Dame Dash tried to understand where Stacey was coming from and shared his belief that the presentation of the comments were worse than what she actually meant.

"I think she was saying, you can't be, 'Yo BET we have our own black stuff that we don't invite white people to and then get mad when white people don't invite us to their stuff.' That's how I looked at it. But then I was just like, 'She didn't have to say it like that or there or get paid to say it.' I would have way preferred her, if she has that opinion, to say it on BET or have a conversation with someone black when she was saying that and let someone black have a conversation back with her as opposed to some white man nodding his head."

After her comments about the network went viral, BET responded via social media and reminded Stacey Dash that she once appeared on their show The Game. She shared her rebuttal on her blog where she wrote, “BET lies to American black people by telling them that the rest of America is racist, so stick close to your own kind. Anything that promotes segregation is bad! And they’re absolutely mortified that someone like me — an independent-thinking black woman — dares call their bluff.”
