Tyler Perry hasn't given up on the character that launched his career just yet. Perry created the hilarious matriarch Madea, and took her from the performance stage to the big screen for movies like Madea's Family Reunion, Madea's Big Happy Family and Madea Goes To Jail. Now, Perry is setting his sights on allowing Madea to explore one of the more frightful holidays adventures with his new October 2016 film, Boo! Madea's Halloween.
Perry sat down with the hosts of the daytime talk show The Real to catch up on what's been going on with Madea and what she'll be up to next. In a video clip of the interiview reported by EUR, Perry describes the upcoming project as hysterical.
According to the site, the film has already begun production in Atlanta and is looking at an Oct. 21 theater release.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the film was written, directed and produced by Perry, but the idea originated from a spoof scene in a Chris Rock movie. According to the site, the 2014 film Top Five included a fictitious film playing on the TV during a portion of the movie that spoofed Perry's character, Madea, taking on the mischievous night of Halloween.
Lionsgate reportedly liked the idea of the spoof so much, they asked Perry to bring the idea to life on the big screen. Lionsgate has released 8 of Perry's Madea films including Diary of a Mad Black Woman; Madea's Family Reunion; Meet the Browns; Madea Goes to Jail; I Can Do Bad All by Myself; Madea's Big Happy Family , Madea's Witness Protection and A Madea Christmas.
This will be the ninth film for Lionsgate and Perry together, and will follow Madea on what is said to be a night full of "fending off killers, paranormal poltergeists, ghosts, ghouls and zombies while keeping a watchful eye on a group of misbehaving teens," according to Variety.
