The Rubens, Kendrick Lamar, Tame Impala Top 2016 Triple J Hottest 100

One of the largest fan voted competitions, the triple j Hottest 100 countdown has unveiled its 2016 list. The reveal takes place today, Jan. 26 during Australia Day festivities as artists tune in to Triple J to see if their tracks place in the countdown. The countdown has some international artists sprinkled in like The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Major Lazer and Drake, but it is dominated by local acts like Tame Impala, The Rubens and Courtney Barnett who lobby their fans for votes.

The top spot went to The Rubens with their single "Hoops."

"Dropping in July 2015, the song's four to the floor beat and sing along lyrics make it a total earworm for triple j listeners," comments triple j's Ollie Wards about the winner via Billboard. "Despite it being a slower song for the band, 'Hoops' always gets the crowd moving at their awesome live shows. After just a few listens the song makes you feel like you've been hearing it for years. That familiarity combined with the Rubens' trademark RnB-meets-blues-rock swagger got it to 2015's Hottest 100 No. 1."

The rest of the top five was dominated by international hits with Kendrick Lamar's "King Kunta" at No. 2, Major Lazer, DJ Snake & MO's "Lean On" and a pair of Tame Impala tracks "The Less I Know The Better" and "Let It Happen" respectively. The rest of the top 10 has some local heroes in Chet Faker and Hermitude, while also celebrating international stars in Disclosure and The Weeknd.
