Yesterday the unsurprising news broke that former dance music behemoth SFX Entertainment was filing for bankruptcy after nearly a year of mounting debt and a rock-bottom stock price. This has caused concerns about many of their assets like Beatport, Made Event, ID&T and Totem OneLove. Beatport released a statement yesterday saying they were continuing business as usual, while festivals like Stereosonic also commented that they planned to go ahead with their 2016 edition. However it appears as though the financial issues could impact one or more festivals, such as TomorrowWorld.
In a statement to George Unfiltered, Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen commented on the future of the three major Tomorrowland festivals in Belgium, Brazil and the United States. She said that the ones in Belgium and Brazil were safe and are going ahead without disruption, but TomorrowWorld in the United States could be in jeopardy.
"In light of the present situation, no concrete plans have yet been made for TomorrowWorld 2016," Wilmsen stated.
This will be a shock to many who have made the pilgrimage to TomorrowWorld each of the past three years since its inaugural festival in 2013. It was given permit to sue the land until 2025 by the local council, but the financial situation could be so tight that they don't want to risk losing money on the festival, considering the PR nightmare of last year.
In 2015 torrential rains left many commuting festival goers unable to get their cars out of flooded parking lots and public transportation was unable to pick them up on the festival grounds, forcing them to sleep outside in the cold without camping gear or walk at night for up to 10 miles to try and find other transportation.
