Aside from Super Bowl 50's stunning halftime show, which featured Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars, this past Sunday's (Feb. 7) historic football game featured Lady Gaga as the performer of the National Anthem, and it should surprise no one that she admitted that she "sang from the heart."
In an interview with Extra, Gaga explained the thought process behind her emotional rendition of the National Anthem. "I just thought about the lyrics and what they really mean. They've been around a long time, so I thought about what they mean now, I just sang from my heart," she said. It’s kind of ancient history stuff, in the Greek and Roman history, performing for the greatest athletics in the world is the highest honour. I’m Italian and European, so, for me, it was such an honour as an American. It was really amazing, the athletes were just kind of majestic standing up there, singing for the fans in the stands and all over the world, it was so cool."
As NME reports, Gaga was in attendance alongside her mother Cynthia and and fiancee Taylor Kinney, who looked on at her performance in amazement. The "Til It Happens to You" singer started her performance with the classic "Star Spangled Banner," ending with a snippet of "God Bless America" using the standout words "home of the brave" to get the crowd on their feet as fighter jets did a breathtaking flyby.
Gaga, who was wearing a pretty fly Gucci pantsuit during Sunday night's game, we might add, is supposedly working on her next studio album due out sometime in 2016. The famed pop singer will also perform a tribute to the late David Bowie at this year's Grammy Awards.
