Over the weekend, panic spread through the ranks of Electric Forest ticketholders that they may not be able to bring outside alcohol onto festival grounds. This stemmed from a reddit post, reportedly copying and pasting a new Michigan law that would have made it difficult for Electric Forest to allow attendees to bring outside alcohol onsite. The festival's FAQ was ambiguous and their response was not speedy, saying they would update it "in a few weeks," leaving the media and fans scratching their heads. Today, E Forest has unveiled its new alcohol policy, which is in line with other festivals and allows campers to bring booze onto the grounds.
In a new Facebook post, Electric Forest acknowledged their error and said that "the festival experience will be similar to years past."
The new policy allows for campers to bring in "a reasonable amount" of unopened beer and wine, which amounts to one case of beer and a box of wine per person, which should be enough for the four days. It also could act as a preventative measure to try and keep people from getting dehydrated in the summer heat after drinking too much alcohol, though booze can be purchased on site.
The statement reads below.
"You must be 21+ to consume alcohol in the campgrounds. A reasonable amount of unopened beer and wine (limited to 1 case of beer and one box of wine per person), will be permitted to be brought onto your camping area. If, however, in the security's judgment anyone in the vehicle is intoxicated, or the alcohol is open, then the organizers reserve the right to confiscate the alcohol. Kegs, glass, liquor, or vending of alcohol is not permitted in the campgrounds, and alcohol may not be brought from the campsites into the festival venue."
Electric Forest will take place on the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, Michgan from June 25-28.
