Weezer Teases 'Hash Pipe'-y New Song 'Ain't Got Nobody,' And It's Surprisingly Awesome

Weezer is revving its engine, turning the key and driving off to new music land. Yesterday (June 4) as a part of the band's Weezer Wednesday series, the legendary alt-rock outfit unviled roughly 40 seconds of a new song, "Ain't Got Nobody," fueling fire that its ninth studio album is well on its way.

Entitled "=w= 8 'Ain't Got Nobody,'" the 38-second snippet features grainy black and white footage of a car en route to... somewhere mountainous, which then pulls away to a man at a desk and then back in to a quite stiff-looking Rivers Cuomo.

The visuals are nice and teaser-y, but the real meat in the "Ain't Got Nobody" teaser is some new Weezer music.

The new single, presumably from a forthcoming Weezer album, recalls the earlier days of the band, with some heavy, sludgy guitar chords, complete with a few little slips of the strings.

The instrumentation builds until a presumed chorus, wherein Cuomo sings he "Ain't got nobody to really love me," in an almost gleeful way.

The song is classic Weezer, harkening back to songs like "Hash Pipe" with its heavier influences.

It may be a little too hopeful to say, but it seems like the good ol' Weezer may be back this time.

"Ain't Got Nobody" is just the most recent sign that Weezer is back in the studio, making music that harkens back to its earliest years. On this year's annual Weezer Cruise, the band debuted a new song "Back To The Shack," a highly self aware song wherein Cuomo declares he forgot disco sucks and that he needs to get back on lead guitar and rock like it's 1994.

In March, Weezer also teased it was back in the studio, with an ominous video simply titled "=w=."
