Kesha Fans, Activist Group Planning Protest at Sony's New York City Offices

The #FreeKesha movement has reached new heights, as fans are now planning a protest outside Sony's New York City offices. Fans hatched the plan exactly one week after a judge ruled that Kesha will be unable to exit her contract with the major label, as well as her alleged rapist, producer Dr. Luke, because he invested financially in her career.

Kesha has alleged that the producer drugged and raped her over a decade ago, and inflicted emotional and mental abuse upon her, which eventually landed her in rehab for an eating disorder.

The protest outside the Sony offices is being organized by activists Care2, who largely operate online, and will take place tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Sony RCA headquarters on Madison Avenue.

In a statement, Care2 representative Lacey Kohlmoos told Billboard: “The #FreeKesha movement has shaken the pop culture community. Whether or not Kesha’s music affected someone personally, this case represents the unfair treatment of sexual assault survivors around the globe. It is important for Sony to see the uproar that they have caused, so protesters are bringing it right to their front door.”

Lead organizer of the event Michael Eisele also said in a statement: “Kesha was offered by Sony to record music with producers other than Dr. Luke. However, Kesha is signed with Kemosabe, Dr. Luke’s recording label, which is under Sony Music’s umbrella. Therefore, any music Kesha is expected to release will be under his label, have his name on it, earn him profits and will be undoubtedly left to plummet … regardless of who the producer is.”

While many have supported Kesha online, Taylor Swift is one celebrity who put her money where her mouth is: The singer/songwriter donated $250,000 to Kesha two days after the court ruling.

Other celebrities who have come forward to show their support on social media include Lady Gaga, Lorde, Demi Lovato, Lily Allen, Grimes, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Kelly Clarkson.
