It's been reported that radio legend Casey Kasem is alert but in critical condition at a Washington state hospital due to an infected bed sore.
According to a statement made by St. Anthony hospital spokesman Scott Thompson, Kasem, now 82-years-old, "is alert and appears to be comfortable at this time." He was taken to the hospital on Sunday after daughter Kerri Kasem and an ambulance arrived at a friend's home to recover him.
Thompson said Kasem was taking antibiotics on top of other needed care for an ulcer he previously suffered when admitted. More information was requested, however, Thompson said he would make no further comment on the matter.
When asked if Kasem's health could take a turn, Danny Deraney, a representative of Kasem's daughter Kerri, told CNN it could very well be the radio icon's last moments or he could get better; however, he later said he never meant Kasem's health was failing.
Kasem's wife had previously been the one in charge of his medical care and placed strict conditions as far as accessing the legendary personality; however, his children from an earlier marriage have continuously challenged her as to who should make the choices about his care.
It was on Sunday that Kerri Kasem, accompanied by an ambulance, took her father to the hospital. That was also when her stepmother tossed that now-famous package of ground meat at her.
In response as to why she did it, Jean Kasem told reporters, "If you need to know why I did it - when a person is about to pass away, there are always rabid dogs," after Monday's court appearance.
