It seems like Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen are about to have a "Good Time" with some newly awarded money. The copyright lawsuit regarding the song's musicology has been dropped, and the poppy duo are now looking to rake in over half a million dollars.
According to TMZ, singer Allyson Burnett has dropped her copyright lawsuit over "Good Time," which she previously claimed copied prominent musical motifs from her track "Ah, It's A Love Song" following an "extensive investigation."
Though earlier this year it had seemed as though Owl City (born Adam Young) and Jepsen had lost the lawsuit, the singers are now owed over $525,901.77 in back royalties. The amount offered still has to be approved by the court, but the deal is more or less a go.
That's more than enough to have a "Good Time..." probably even an amazing time!
The 2012 hit was originally accused of ripping off chord progressions, musical patterns and that peppy round of "Ohs" from Burnett's track, but she has since dropped the lawsuit.
"Good Time" hit the Billboard charts in July 2012, eventually peaking at No. 8 on the Hot 100, making the song a bona fide hit. Meanwhile, Burnett's "Ah, It's A Love Song" has largely remained under the radar.
