Kesha has had a rough time of it lately with her stance against former producer Dr. Luke and she thanked supporters during an appearance at The Human Rights Campaign in Nashville. The singer was there last night (March 5) to receive the Visibility Award for her advocation for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth not to be harassed.
Kesha’s honor came on the heels of her lost injunction against Dr. Luke, (producer Lukasz Gottwald), whom she claims mentally and sexually abused her in the early years of her career, to be freed from her contract
According to Billboard, she thanked supporters over dinner at the Nashville event, saying, “As many of you know I am going through some personal things that have been really intense and hard lately and I just want to say thank you for the support I have received.”
“My message today is don’t be afraid to speak up against any injustice you experience,” Kesha further said. “Don’t let people scare or shame you into changing the things about you that make you unique. We can’t be afraid to fight for our dignity, these are our basic human rights.”
In the past, Kesha has asserted that her song, “We R Who We R,” released in 2010, was written to bring hope to youth who have felt victimized and criticized for being themselves.
Despite her lost injunction, Kesha recently recorded a new song to thank her fans for their support during her trying time and court case. The clip that Kesha’s lawyer Mark Geragos posted to Twitter was only 27 seconds long but the message was powerful.
“I don’t know what I would do without you,” Kesha sang in the short clip. “I don’t know where I would be, without,” she sings as the snippet cuts out.
Her lawyer released the clip to Twitter in late February and wrote, “A special thanks to everyone who has had her back.”
