Former Beach Boy Brian Wilson has been working on a new album for quite a while, but it seems like it may just be worth the wait. The legendary musician recently posted on his website an upcoming article Rolling Stone did on him, which discloses a number of artists he's been working with on the new record.
According to Wilson, the album will consist of tracks featuring the likes of Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey, Zooey Deschanel and country's Kacey Musgraves.
The new record obviously sits as an exciting project for Wilson, who claims it "blows his mind." He was quoted saying, "I had no idea we could pull this off!"
In the piece, Musgrave's performance on "Sharing a New Day" is described as "sassy," while Del Ray's appearance on "Last Song" is noted as being rather "haunting" – an understandable description that any Lana Del Rey fan would surely accept as a compliment.
The piece also reports that Frank Ocean will "potentially" be featured on the album track "Special Love" and Zooey Deschanel will appear on the "space-age bossa nova" song "On the Island."
As reported by Billboard, Wilson recently took to Facebook to discuss his feelings about the negativity he's been receiving about the album he's been "working so hard on," as he puts it.
"To my fans: it kind of bums me out to see some of the negativity here about the album I've been working so hard on. In my life in music, I've been told too many times not to fuck with the formula, but as an artist it's my job to do that - and I think I've earned that right.
I'm really proud of these new songs and to hear these great artists sing on them just blows me away. I love what we've done.
I would think that after making music for more than fifty years, my fans would understand that I'll always do what's in my heart - and I think that's why you are my fans. So let's just wait until the album comes out because I think you just might dig it as much as I do.
Love and Mercy, Brian"
Last year, Wilson spoke with Billboard about the very same record and discussed working with Jeff Beck and former Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine, David Marks and Blondie Chaplin. Whether or not those tracks will appear on this album is unclear at this time.
