SXSW is the standard when it comes to music, tech and film festivals, but Brooklyn (of course) is trying to build one of its own with Northside Festival. The festival has only just begun to unveil its more than 400 musical acts, but the main headliners were announced today and the top acts are Brian Wilson performing Pet Sounds as he will at various other festival across the United States to celebrate the Beach Boys album's 50th year anniversary, Kacey Musgraves, Conor Oberst and Wolf Parade.
Also included in this wave of artists include Rostam, Beth Israel, Diet Cig, Hinds, PC Worship, Steve Gunn, Washer, Lotic, The Felice Brothers, Childbirth, King Khan & The Shrines, Institute, The Numerators, DJ Spinn and Peanut Butter Wolf.
Northside Festival takes place at venues in and around McCarren Park in Williamsburg, spreading out from concert halls like Warsaw, Music Hall of Williamsburg and The Knitting Factory to outdoor venues like 40 Kent Place, where some of the bigger headliners will perform for big crowds.
Though one might expect the festival to spread out Conor Oberst and Kacey Musgraves on different nights or at least different venues, in a tweet, Oberst's team revealed that he will be co-headlining a show with Musgraves on June 11 with The Felice Brothers supporting.
Northside Festival will kick off on June 6 with the film component, ending on June 8. From June 9 to June 12, the tech and music aspects of the festival will run congruently in the same area, allowing for overlap at some events.
