So Pusha T's debut album "My Name Is My Name" is already seeing some delays in its initial release date, but the rapper said it's for the better. The final say on the release sits somewhat with Kanye West, the head honcho at G.O.O.D. Music, which Pusha is signed to.
The former Clipse rapper said that he turned in the final copy of "My Name" to West and the producer naturally had some suggestions, including a few new beats, which he gave to the performer. One of those beats was by a certain celebrity, and not the musical kind.
"When I turned it in in June, he gave me probably two or three new beats," Pusha told VIBE magazine. "One of those beats was from Joaquin Phoenix, and it's probably gonna be...I want it to be the intro to my album."
So West just took some clip from on of the actor's movies and morphed it into a catchy hook right? Nope. The beat was apparently created by Phoenix himself, and he left it in West's hands to be used when he felt it right. Pusha didn't indicate what the name of the track was, but it has to be something worthwhile if he's willing to let it open the album.
Phoenix made headlines for his announcement back in 2010 that he wanted to become a rapper. It was all part of an elaborate stunt planned by Phoenix and Casey Affleck for faux documentary "I'm Still Here," but Phoenix sold the idea of a burnt out celebrity (thanks to his now infamous beard) and his crazy ambitions. The actual raps made available by Phoenix were not very good, unless considered in a Dadaist light. Evidently his production work was an actual aspiration, and it must have been good, because West is a hard guy to please.
