Justin Bieber premiered something that we all weren't expecting this weekend at the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Awards, but it wasn't a new single. It was his new hairstyle, which is bleached blonde dreadlocks. Bieber has officially joined the likes of Adam Duritz, the members of Korn, Ani DiFranco and other white musicians that have sported dreads during their careers.
According to Bieber's take on the reactions and backlash from the world, he doesn't have the dreadlocks to be more like a black person, despite what common sense might tell us.
In a behind-the-scenes Twitter video of Bieber discussing his hair with Big Sean, we can hear the pop star explaining that he isn't trying to be black, before singing "I Am Not My Hair" by India.Arie.
"People say I want to be black and all that stuff. It's just my hair," Justin can be heard explaining to the rapper.

While plenty of Twitter users were not happy about the dreads, and straight-up made fun of the "Sorry" singer, Bieber shared a short-but-to-the-point Instagram photo showing off his dreads and asking "Why?" Check it out right here:
This subject matter was recently the topic of a viral video featuring a black student confronting a dreadlocked white student. The black student took offence to the appropriation of her culture that this symbolized. You can head over to The Independent for more on this story.
