Justin Bieber "Company" The Knocks Remix Review: '55' DJs Rework Mellow 'Purpose' Single

NYC disco, funk electronic music duo The Knocks have been tabbed to remix Justin Bieber's new Purpose single, "Company."

The new remix keeps a lot of the original elements of "Company" with Bieber's vocals remaining the focal point for the track, but they do make some minor changes the instrumental. It remains, subdued, yet danceable, but with some tweaks that give it a summer edge. With pool parties and the beach in mind, The Knocks add some pan-flute and a stronger bass line. Speeding up the tempo, it becomes a little more danceable, while also stripping back a few of the snare rolls and synths in the hook to make the track their own.

There isn't the upbeat disco and funk flare one might expect from a Knocks tune that was found on their recent album, but they keep to the original vibe of the Bieber record and bring it a little closer to the dancefloor and a pool. It almost feels like they could have done more with the opportunity, but still is a solid effort considering they just released their debut album 55 one month ago.

To go along with the remix, The Knocks are heading out on tour with Bieber for two brief stops on the Purpose Tour. Those two gigs will be important, since they are in Bieber's home country of Canada on May 13 in Ottawa and May 14 in Quebec.

The Knocks have a knack for remixing other pop artists. Many of them have been unofficial reworks for the likes of Taylor Swift, Jr Jr, X Ambassadors and Carly Rae Jepsen. This is their biggest official remix opportunity to date.

There is no word on when the remix will be officially released, but until then stream it below.
