RL Grime has unveiled a brand new song "Aurora." To go along with the track, the Void producer has released a video where they attached a GoPro to a weather balloon and sent it to space.
RL Grime and his team captured the footage from this extraterrestrial voyage to space and synced it to song, matching changes in the song and showing off some breathtaking shots of the earth from space. The final drop sees the weather balloon pop and the camera come crashing back down to earth, flying through the atmosphere and onto the ground. It is edited because this all takes time as one remembers from Felix Baumgartner's ascent to space and then jump back down, but the shots or the earth are worth the listen alone.
The track itself is reminiscent of some of the more melodic cuts off of his 2014 album Void. Chopping and distorting a vocal to start, a foreboding opening sets the tone as the balloon makes its way to space over a desert wasteland. This starts to build, as the balloon gets higher into the air with some risers and bass added into the mix. The track really kicks once the camera ends up in space and s first barrage of snare rolls and synths is unleashed on the viewer. Things slow down as the balloon floats in space, but it once pops, an even greater onslaught of synths, snare rolls and bass is unleashed by RL Grime as the camera comes crashing back down to earth.
