As the world mourns the death of Prince, it has just been reported that his autopsy results are expected to take weeks to complete. The autopsy itself took place just this morning (April 22). While the results only usually take three hours, the official results will not be released to the public for many weeks.
A representative named Martha Weaver from the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office said to The Hollywood Reporter that, “Nothing will be released until everything is complete. Nothing can be reported with a pending status.”
Many are speculating on what exactly killed the internationally beloved artist, but as of yet there are no definitive answers. And there will be none until the autopsy is completed and the toxicology results are returned. Dr. A. Quinn Strobl, chief medical examiner, will be performing the Purple One’s autopsy, which will also include medical and social histories as part of the information.
On Thursday morning (April 21) the artist was discovered in the elevator of his residence in Paisley Park and was unable to be resuscitated.
His publicist confirmed the news to the Associated Press on Thursday afternoon. While his death was unexpected, it did come only a week following an emergency landing of his tour plane and subsequent hospitalization for the flu. He had also canceled a few shows in Atlanta prior to becoming ill, but it was also reported that he had thrown a dance party at his house shortly thereafter. In the wake of Prince's death, many in the music industry reacted to the major loss of a legend, who died at the young age of 57.
Numb. Stunned. This can't be real.
