As we told you all late last night, it rained a lot yesterday. Things did not look up for Sunday, as the weekend got closer with a strong chance of thunderstorms in the forecast. The morning looked gloomy and now with starting to pour again and a forecast of thunderstorms on the way, Governors Ball 2016 has officially canceled day 3.
In a statement released on the festival's website, organizers explained why they canceled the festival.
"Sunday, June 5th of Gov Ball 2016 has officially been cancelled, due to severe weather and a high likelihood of lightning in the area," says Gov Ball. "The safety of fans, artists and crew always comes first."
Day 3 was headlined by a rare festival appearance by Kanye West, who also performed in 2013 during torrential rainfall. Other acts scheduled include Vince Staples, Chet Faker, CHVRCHES, Prophets of Rage, Two Door Cinema Club and Death Cab For Cutie.
Rain at festivals has been in the news this weekend at German festival Rock am Ring where over 70 people were injured in lightning strikes.
The festival had two outstanding days with performances by the likes of The Strokes, The Killers, De La Soul, Bob Moses, Miguel, The Knocks, Beck and many more. Refund information can be found on the Gov Ball website here.
