Grimes had an unpleasant surprise in store for fans when she performed at Barclays Center in Brooklyn with Florence + The Machine this past Wednesday night (June 15). A little more than halfway through “World Princess II,” she abruptly walked off stage, seemingly rattled by an undisclosed incident that had taken place earlier that day. Following the dramatic walk off, Grimes has said that she will explain when she can “legally do so.”
“We just had a really disturbing thing happen to us today, so sorry if my voice is shaking, it’s been kind of a f*cked day…” Grimes said to the crowd at Barclays Center, captured in a fan shot video. “I apologize, I’m having a lot of trouble keeping it together today, right now.”

The next night, the singer took to Twitter to connect with her fans about the incident and tweeted that she would “explain what happened at Barclays” once she could “safely and legally do so.” A second tweet attacked Reddit trolls that she claimed are “not credible sources” on her mental health.
As of yet, representatives for Grimes have not commented on the situation. The singer ended her tweets by releasing news of her new song, “Medieval Warfare,” slated to be released on the Suicide Squad soundtrack.
In other Grimes news, the singer revealed to Rolling Stone that she was halfway done with a follow-up album to Art Angels. She further described how different the new music is from Art Angels, saying, “With Art Angels, it was all like [growls]. This would be more chill vibes, downtempos, synth-y sh*t. That makes it sound boring. It’s not boring.”
She further said, “You know how Lana Del Rey put out Paradise Edition after Born to Die? It would be like that. There are songs I seriously considered for Art Angels, but they f*cked with the momentum when I tried to put them on the record.”
