Following her tragic death last month, The Voice singer Christina Grimmie’s family have thanked fans for their donations to their GoFundMe page. Grimmie was shot and killed by unstable fan Kevin Loibl during a meet and greet after her show in Orlando on June 10.
Her manager launched the GoFundMe page a day after she died, and it raised $150,000 in donations by 8,000 people. The money raised on the page, which has now ended, is meant to support her family during their time of mourning.
According to NME, her parents Bud and Tina, as well as her brother Marcus, released a statement expressing that she will “live in our hearts forever” once the fundraising had ended. It further said that, “The outpouring of love and generosity that has been displayed to our family throughout these last weeks has far exceeded anything we could have ever imagined.”
The family continued with, “As we have always known, Christina’s life was so very special, not only to us, but to everyone she touched with her joyful heart, beautiful voice and love for life and the Lord. Words cannot express what the many memorials, donations and tributes shared by Christina’s fans and those in the media and entertainment industry mean to us. She will live on in our hearts forever. We will take our time in determining the best ways to honor Christina moving forward. Thank you.”
Her brother Marcus also shared an emotional tribute on social media back in June, and can be counted as a real hero of the shooting that killed his younger sister. When the gunman opened fire, Marcus reportedly blocked him from shooting others, and he then killed himself. Her death has raised serious questions about gun control at concerts.
Grimmie certainly made an impact during her short time in the music industry, and was managed by Brian Teefy, who is Selena Gomez’s stepfather and discovered the young singer in 2011. She was also mentored on The Voice by Adam Levine, who had offered to pay for her funeral expenses following her death at the young age of 22.
