Extended stints in rehab and jail can't stop Chris Brown. Last night, the troubled R&B singer made his triumphant return to the limelight with a performance at the BET Awards, and he immediately followed his performance with the release of a new song: "New Flame."
When Brown makes a comeback, he joins up with the best. After performing his first new single of 2014 "Loyal" live for the first time since his leaving jail, Brown surprised his 13.5 million Twitter followers by releasing "New Flame," a smooth rolling, loving R&B track featuring Usher and Rick Ross.
Brown's choices in collaborators for "New Flame" were key here, with Brown himself pulling from Usher in his verses. Incorporating that influence with Usher's verses and Ross', the song works better than it should as one cohesive piece. It's full of R&B-style love all around.
Featuring a fittingly slow-burning beat, Brown packs away the misogynist themes of "Loyal" in return for a declaration of new love. "You gon be my baby / let me love you crazy / Tell me if you in it / Baby, come and get it / Try a new thing / And let's walk a new flame," he croons in the chorus, full of fiery passion and sexual energy.
