The infamous donut-licking incident has cost Ariana Grande a gig performing at the White House. This past Friday (July 22) website Wikileaks published thousands of emails that were hacked from the Democratic National Committee. One email thread exposed an incident where the White House turned down Grande for a performance over last year’s scandal.
The emails that were leaked had in them a request to vet Grande for a booking at a gala late this past year. According to Billboard, Grande has a completely clean criminal and financial record, but was still turned down. The vet included a report detailing the donut-licking incident, where Grande was captured on camera “maliciously” running her tongue over some pastries that were unsupervised.
White House employee Bobby Schmuck allegedly replied “Nope, sorry” in the email thread about her potential performance at the gala. Grande had apologized for the incident numerous times in the past, but it appears that it has followed her. Following the scandal, Grande went on to release her third album, Dangerous Woman, which spawned a self-titled top 10 hit.
In other Grande news, the singer recently canceled a performance at Rock in Rio, a festival located in Lisbon, Portugal due to a sinus and throat infection back in May.
“I’m deeply saddened to tell my babes in Portugal that I have to cancel my performance at Rock in Rio (I’ve literally been crying over this for an hour)… I have a throat & sinus infection & my doctors have advised me not to sing for a few days,” the singer wrote on Instagram. “I promise to make it up to you, and give you the best show I’m capable of when I return. Again, I’m so sorry to the babes who were coming to see me. I love you with all my heart.”
