Due to the massive success of the Carpool Karaoke segment of The Late Late Show with James Corden, the spinoff show based on the feature was picked up by Apple Music after winning a bidding war. However, the upcoming series will not be hosted by James Corden.
The segment basically features the talk show host Corden picking up celebrities and driving around town as they sing various tunes. In the latest episode, Corden drove around the White House with Michelle Obama and Missy Elliot.
The new series based on the segment will still focus on the original theme. However, to avoid a direct competition with the original Carpool Karaoke, CBS, the network that airs The Late Late Show, did not allow Corden to be the host of the spinoff program that Apple Music will debut, according to Tech Times.
Since Corden is such an effective host on Carpool Karaoke and is probably one of the reasons behind the segment's success, Apple Music will most likely get a new presenter that has the same charisma and talent as the talk show personality. But the company has not yet announced who will be the series' host.
Although Corden will not be the face of Apple Music's Carpool Karaoke, he will still get to work on the program since he has agreed to serve as one of the executive producers of the series, Variety reported.
The spinoff program does not yet have an exact premiere date but the production of the show is expected to begin soon. For its first season, the show will have 16 episodes that will be aired on a weekly basis.
Aside from singing inside the car, the upcoming show will also serve as a travelogue where the celebrity guests and the host travel to places that have a personal significance to them.
