In a year of political unrest and some of the most controversial political candidates to date, Kanye West is talking his own potential political run in 2020. In an interview with Annie Mac aired on BBC 1 on Monday August 1, he also talks about his depression following an unfortunate performance at Glastonbury 2015.
In excerpts of the interview posted by Fact, West emphasized his unique reasons for wanting to run for president, saying, “When I talk about the idea of being president, I’m not saying I have any political views, I don’t have views on politics. I just have a view on humanity, on people, on the truth. If there is anything that I can do with my time and my day, to somehow make a difference while I’m alive I’m going to try to do it.”
West is known for being a perfectionist, and the headlining set going awry at Glastonbury was a hard blow. He described to Mac how it reminded him of an earlier time in his music career, when he was struggling to make a name for himself.
When talking on the mishaps at Glastonbury, West said it threw him back to high school, when he suffered from depression, saying, “So it put me in a slightly depressed state and it put me back in the position of when I was in high school and I got fired from my job, or when I played my music for R. Kelly and he told me he was going to sign me and then three months later I didn’t have any money. I couldn’t afford a haircut, I couldn’t take my girlfriend to the movies and I’m still in my momma’s bedroom, working on beats and I was that close to being signed by R. Kelly.”
He further expressed that he takes meticulous efforts to prepare for his performances instead of getting nervous in order to deal with these issues.
In other West news, the rapper recently signed on to produce a line of clothing, shoes and accessories with Adidas following the massive success of his Yeezy 350 Boost sneakers. The original shoes designed by West now sell for thousands on eBay since only 9,000 pairs were released. The original price of the shoes was only $350. Billboard further reported that a chain of Adidas and Kanye West retail stores might even be put into play.
