At 61 years old, Angus Young of AC/DC is starting to think about retiring from the band. But, he assured fans that even though he's only one of the remaining core members of the band, he's still committed to finishing the Rock or Bust world tour.
Young has been the lead guitarist of AC/DC ever since he and his older brother Malcolm Young formed the legendary Australian band in 1973.
With many of his bandmates retiring from AC/DC, Angus noted that he still doesn't know whether he'll continue playing or officially step down after the tour. However, he admitted that he already thought about retiring when Malcolm left.
"That might be the case," he told Rolling Stone. "But Malcolm was always one to battle through. He would look at me in times of crisis and go, 'We'll just go in and do some work. We'll sit and write some songs.' He had that drive, and I feel obligated to keep it going, maybe because I was there in the beginning with him."
As for his brother's health condition, Angus noted that it's getting harder to talk to Malcolm because of his current state.
"It's hard to communicate," Angus said. "I do pass on messages. I can't be 100 percent sure it goes in there. But I let him know there are a lot of people missing him."
Decades of being active in the music industry have taken a toll on AC/DC's members. As Team Rock noted, Angus is the only remaining main member that's pushing the band to finish its tour, which could be its last.
On the Rock or Bust tour, which kicked off in April last year, vocalist Brian Johnson was replaced by Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose and former drummer Phil Rudd stepped in for Chris Slade. Bassist Cliff Williams has already said he will retire from AC/DC once the tour ends, which will be on Sept. 20, 2016.
Malcolm officially left the band in 2014 after he was diagnosed with Dementia. He was replaced by his nephew Stevie Young.
