2 Chainz is slated to release his new mixtape Daniel Son, Necklace Don this upcoming Friday on Apple Music.
The Atlanta-based rapper revealed the news on Instagram with a screenshot of texts that he’d exchanged with fellow industry heavyweight Drake.
Billboard further reported that the industry may also be expecting releases from Frank Ocean and Travis Scott that same day.
The conversation further gives insight into a potential new collaboration between the two, with Drake texting, “When we dropping that joint?”
Drake and 2 Chainz have worked together in the past, collaborating on the 2012 song “No Lie” and the 2013 song “I Do It.”
The new mixtape comes on the heels of his Felt Like Cappin’ tape that was released this past January, as well as his ColleGrove collaboration with rapper Lil’ Wayne.
The two also recently discussed their ColleGrove collaboration in the third and fourth videos of their Genius series.
2 Chainz exposed some of the meaning behind his Genius lyrics, even exposing the meaning behind the song “Section,” where he raps about selling his own mother drugs.
“It’s something that I still cannot even really comfortably talk about,” he said in the video.
“I’m going to give you a scenario. ... Imagine you’re staying in this neighborhood and you’re dealing with somebody in your family that you love very much having a habit that you or them can’t control."
He continued, “It’s stuff that n**gas will never understand or for me smiling every day releases those little pain enzymes that I’ve been through coming up in section 8 and dealing with what I had to deal with.”
