In an effort to beat out bootleggers, 2 Chainz released his Daniel Son; Necklace Don mixtape early. The mixtape was initially scheduled to be dropped on Friday (Aug. 5) but was instead released late on the evening of Thursday (Aug. 4).
“Since the bootleggers wanna f*k up my release time here y'all go… Daniel Son; Necklace Don,” 2 Chaniz tweeted along with a link to the Soundcloud according to Billboard. The new project features Drake on the song “Big Amount” and YFN Lucci on the song “You In Luv With Her.”
Leading up to the release of Daniel Son; Necklace Don, which was initially scheduled to be released on Apple Music, 2 Chainz posted screenshots of texts with Drake in order to build anticipation.
The conversation gave fans some insight into what was then just a suspected collaboration between the two, with a text from Drake that read, “When we dropping that joint?”
2 Chainz and Drake have collaborated successfully in the past, with 2012’s “No Lie” and 2013’s “I Do It.”
The mixtape follows his Felt Like Cappin’ tape that was released in January and ColleGrove, a collaboration between Lil Wayne and the Atlanta rapper that was released this past March.
Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz recently discussed their collaboration on ColleGrove in the third and fourth videos of their Genius series.
During the interview, 2 Chainz talked about the meanings behind some of his lyrics, including the song “Section,” where he spits lines about selling his own mother drugs.
“It’s something that I still cannot even really comfortably talk about,” he said in the Genius video.
“I’m going to give you a scenario. … Imagine you’re staying in this neighborhood and you’re dealing with somebody in your family that you love very much having a habit that you or them can’t control.”
