Michael Phelps is continuing his dominant form at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio, winning gold medals and the internet with his best impression of Anakin Skywalker. Before a race, he is seen listening to music through his custom, USA Beats headphones and it has been a mystery as to what gets the greatest Olympic swimmer ever ready to go. That mystery has been revealed with his pre-race playlist consisting of tracks by the likes of Eminem, Young Jeezy and Eric Church.
According to the New York Times, those are some of the selections that appear on his playlist. He has not detailed a full set of songs that are there to get him ready to race.
Eminem seems to be a constant for Phelps. Though he did not say it was part of his pre-race routine, in 2005, the swimmer spoke to The Guardian and picked out some of his favorite artists. Those include Dr. Dre, Notorious BIG and the aforementioned Eminem. He even met The Game backstage at a Snoop Dogg concert.
Phelps has already won three gold medals out of the three races he has competed in at these Olympic Games. That brings his total career gold medal count to a staggering 21. He is still a favorite in the races he has left in Rio, but he will need all of the energy he can get to remain the best.
The famous Phelps face has taken over the internet in the past few days. He has his music on, so which song do you think he had going?
Update: In several new interviews with People and others, Phelps has clarified what he has been listening to this time around. Some of the artists include older Eminem, Lil Wayne, Skrillex, Nero, his buddy Steve Aoki and others.
