Lady Gaga has confirmed that she will play the lead in the upcoming film A Star is Reborn. Bradley Cooper will direct the film, which is a remake of the 1937 movie with the same title.
The pop star made the announcement through her Twitter page and noted that she is looking forward to working with the American Sniper actor. Aside from directing the film, Cooper will also star alongside the "Born This Way" singer.
According to Deadline, A Star is Born will serve as Cooper's directorial debut and will also be Lady Gaga's first starring role in a major motion picture. In addition to acting in the film, the singer will also write original music for the project.
"For those lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director," Greg Silverman, the Warner Bros. president of Creative Development and WW Production said in a press release.
"We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home - Warner Bros. - and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of A Star is Born," the executive added.
As reported by The Verge, Cooper's A Star is Born will still follow the same premise of the original movie, which starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, but with a few minor changes. Instead of playing an actress like in the 1937 film, Lady Gaga will take on the role of an aspiring singer whose rise to fame will coincide with the demise of the career of her lover and mentor, who will be played by Cooper.
A Star is Born does not yet have a projected release date but the first stages of production are scheduled to begin in California early next year.
