In a recent interview, Steve Aoki revealed his plans to be cryogenically frozen after his death in the hopes of getting resurrected in the future. According to the artist, he wants to undergo cryopreservation because of his father Rocky Aoki, the founder of the restaurant chain Benihana.
The electro house artist recently told Rolling Stone that he already has a contract with Alcor Life Extension Foundation, a non-profit organization in Scottsdale, Arizona that focuses on the advancement of cryonics. Through his contract, which is worth around $220,000, Steve will have his entire body cryogenically frozen. He is hoping that once new cryonics technology has been successfully developed in the future, scientists will be able to bring him back to life.
Aside from hoping to live forever, another main reason why Steve is fascinated with this preservation process is his father Rocky, who died in 2008 because of cancer. According to the artist, during his father's last moments, he saw how he struggled to stay alive.
"He had tubes all in him, but he'd grip my hand tight," he told Rolling Stone. "He was still there, fighting. His brain was not ready to die."
As noted by Steve, he had a special relationship with his father, even though he was very strict when it came to his son's finances and career choices. The documentary film I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Aug. 19, offers a detailed insight into Steve's interactions with Rocky, according to Billboard.
Aside from his personal life, the film also centers on how he balances his life as a family man, a D.J. and a music producer.
