Steve Aoki Formally Apologizes for Breaking Fan's Neck During Performance

Steve Aoki has formally apologized for breaking a fan’s neck during a performance back in 2012 at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego.

Aoki has always been known to go all out at performances, and engaging in antics such as tossing cakes and crowdsurfing on inflatable rafts.

The incident occurred when Aoki tossed a life raft into the crowd and then jumped from the balcony. A fan named Brittany Hickman was standing under the raft and her neck broke when Aoki landed on it. She was nearly paralyzed by the event.

Hickman then turned around and sued Aoki for $10.7 million when his team and Hard Rock declined paying for her medical treatment or refunding the two months she wasn’t able to work due to the injury. The two-week trial concerning the event just ended yesterday (Aug. 18) and the decision was in favor of Hard Rock.

But the DJ had already settled with Hickman out of court prior to the trial although defense lawyers had said that concertgoers should be aware of the antics at his live shows.

A statement issued in a press release to Billboard Dance read, “Steve would never want anyone to get hurt at one of his shows and is sorry Ms. Hickman did. After they reached a confidential settlement, they had a chance to speak, and Steve got the chance to apologize. The favorable verdict for his co-defendant, Hard Rock Hotel, brings welcome closure to all parties.”

According to NME, Aoki was just named as amongst the highest paid DJs in the world in a survey conducted by Forbes. The DJ ranked behind Calvin Harris, Tiesto, David Guetta and Zedd.
